Level 4 Soil Surveys are used to confirm or dispute initial soil classifications, provide more precise depths to seasonal high-water tables and bedrock, and establish loading rates for non-conventional septic systems.
Simply put, these in-depth analyses are used to determine a type of septic system that will function adequately in poor soil conditions. Mechanically dug pits and direct measurements of hydraulic conductivity (using a permeameter) are common practices used when conducting Level 4 Surveys.
